Multibuilding Fire Roars Through Council Bluffs
A seven story Grand hotel and adjacent blocks in Council Bluffs burned in early December, destroying the Continental Furniture store and about a hundred offices. The blast from a Continental boiler explosion caused widespread damage totaling around two million dollars. Authorities report 85 guests were in the Grand hotel with several narrow escapes and extensive property losses across multiple blocks. Fire crews from Omaha aided in controlling the blaze as embers showered the surrounding streets and hundreds gathered to watch.

Thirty eight Creston Legion men sign for 1926
Thirty eight Creston World War veterans renewed their American Legion membership at the last 1925 meeting held in the Elks home basement. Harry Osborn was installed as 1926 commander, with W G Strance as vice commander Cleo Clayton adjutant Bert Tallman finance officer and others filling posts. The post urged a large district delegation to Chariton on December 14 and voted to host a 1926 district meeting. A membership renewal drive was launched by D W Harper and an oyster supper followed the business session.

Funeral services were held in Bedford at the Methodist church for Mrs. Mary Newton and her son Harry 8. both of Conway who died of heart disease last Saturday. Des Moines report states two youthful masked bandits who attempted the First National bank at Diagonal will be in custody within 48 hours. Harvey L Woods a Creston World War veteran died Tuesday after an operation at the veterans hospital in Kansas City. About 250 legion men and lodge brothers met the funeral train at the railroad station Wednesday. His mother Mrs Hattie Woods Creston and sister Mrs Myrtle Wolfe Des Moines accompanied the body from Kangag City to Creston. The body lay in state at McGregor Brothers Coen funeral parlors before a 10 am Friday service at the Baptist church with Rev J H Woodsum. Burial is in the family lot at Conway.
