Veterans Bureau reforms expand World War I benefits
Washington reports the veterans bureau has centralized to regional offices and expanded services for veterans including hospitalization rehabilitation and compensation. The year ending June 30 saw $415 million in disbursements a drop from the prior year due to fewer training cases and cost cuts. The total patient count was 22 610 with 79 percent in government hospitals and over 25 010 beds available. Insurance conversion remains limited with 438 562 converting policies totaling about 1.6 billion dollars. Staffing fell to 27 035 with annual salaries at 42.5 million.
