Herbert Hoover arrives at his new general headquarters on Massachusetts Avenue and finds staff already at work. William J. Donovan and George Barr Bakey are among his first visitors as carpenters and telephones fill the office.
Geneva August 30 The fifty first council of the League of Nations opened with a condemnatory resolution from the Congress for the Protection of Minority Rights charging the council with failing to relieve minority peoples in Europe. The congress also telegraphed Secretary Kellogg urging action to avert a threat to peace. The resolution noted that while early League work benefited minorities, little has been done recently to address their grave problems.
Divorces awarded in the August term rose to seven as two decrees were granted yesterday afternoon. Judge A. R. Maxwell presided over the Tuesday actions. Elsie Richter was granted a decree from Ernest Richter and Thomas L Groves from Thelma M Groves in yesterday's rulings.
Des Moines hosts the Iowa campaign headquarters next Tuesday as Richard F. Mitchell announces the move after a St. Louis conference with National Chairman J. J. Raskob. The fifth floor observatory building will house offices for Mitchell Reynolds Etter Mousel O'Donnell and other officials as an intensive statewide campaign begins.
Mrs. B C Dillon of Creston recalls the Hoover homecoming in West Branch with a breakfast in the birthroom. Citizens decorated the village as bands played and locals greeted the Republican nominee. A cane carved from a birthroom window casing was presented to Hoover by Dillon on behalf of West Branch and Iowa.
Hot Springs Arkansas August 30 thousands of Democrats arrive for the formal notification of Joe T Robinson of Arkansas as the party's vice presidential nominee. RobinsOns wife Mrs Robinson helps manage events as Governor Harvey Parnell proclaims the day a state holiday. The notification program will be broadcast on stations including WHO Des Moines around 8 p.m.
G W Rhine 96 year old Creston resident visited the courthouse to buy a state hunting and fishing license. He remains a skilled rifle shot and lives at 806 North Vine Street. Rev W L Cain of Willmar Minn and his wife were delayed from visiting Creston due to a funeral in progress.

Wanda Farwell nine year old daughter of Theda Farwell of 806 North Sycamore Street sustaining fractures to both legs after stepping from a car into the path of Dr. Bowers of Orient who drove her to Greater Community Hospital where her condition was listed as favorable today Mrs Donald Tyler of Lenox visiting Creston reported the incident to authorities
Creston Iowa council tentatively approves buying six automatic stop and go traffic signals plus installation for about 1700 dollars. Signals to be placed at Pine Maple Elm with Adams and Montgomery streets. final decision next Monday dependent on payment plan.
Mayor George D Newcomb appointed a nine member library board approved by the tech council. Members include Homer Harsh Rev Stephen Wise Rev George E Mitchell L J Nickle Mrs Mary E Maxwell Mrs Ezra Arnold Mrs J M Thomas Mrs D Davenport and Dr Theresa Burns. The move supports Mrs Frank Phillips Bartlesville Okla offer to erect a 25000 memorial library here with a two mill levy for maintenance and a 1.5 mill levy to buy real estate.

Milford Pa Aug 30 Bodies of M. M Merrill and Edwin M Ronne were found by Arthur McCarthy after a plane crash near Milford in a forest six miles from town. The craft took off from Buffalo for New York in a plane owned by Colonel Lindbergh. Gasoline tank explosion suspected. Wreckage sighted after a wide search by dozens of volunteers, commercial pilots, and the army.
Nearly 200 rural town and city teachers from Union county gather at Creston senior high auditorium for the opening session of a two day institute. The program features talks by state and local education leaders, with the new standard course of study explained for county use this year.

Machinery for a storm sewer project in Creston's north central area is unloaded at the freight house by H. J. Peterson Company of Omaha. Work must start by September 1 and finish by December 1, with a forecasted 30 day completion if weather cooperates. The eight and a half block sewer will connect to the existing north city system.
Grady manager and C C Corlett assistant manager of the J C Penney store in Creston had a long forenoon visit with J C Penney founder of the company. Mr Penney was in Chariton today and the Creston trio drove there to meet him.
Locals Miss Nellie Clayton of Tingley shopped here today. Mr and Mrs Harry Walter of Lenox visited and shopped in Creston Wednesday. Mrs Irene Erdhaus returns home tonight after attending the state fair. Misses Iva and Martha Struwe of Lenox shopped here today. Miss Florence Skiles, visiting Robert Skiles in Shenandoah, returned home today.
