Collings Horse Places At Fair In Late Race
Donna Spier owned by Sheriff Frank Collings of Creston finished second third and fourth in the three heats of the 2:20 trot at the fair. Twelve horses ran for a purse around 920 dollars. Rail unions reach pay agreement with western railroads
The United States board of mediation announced an agreement among the Order of Railway Conductors and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and western railroads on pay raises and rule changes. Ratification by local general committees is required, or the dispute continues. About 70,000 workers on 80 railroads across 66 percent of western mileage would be affected. Initial demands ranged from 10 to 18 percent, while railroads offered about 7 percent if rules were dropped. The board has discussed the case since July 22 and the agreement awaits approval.
