Hearing in district court this afternoon on A. D. Brown Creston motion to quash a vagrancy charge from mayor's court July. Brown was found guilty by Mayor M. L Burt and sentenced to 10 days. Court overruled Jacob Burd motion to set aside a default judgment. Luers awarded $298.84.

Suit Filed for Near 500000 Against Defunct Bank President

Sioux City Aug 28 Suit for nearly 500000 has been filed against F A McCornack president of the defunct Iowa State Savings bank and his wife by attorneys for the Iowa state banking commission. The claim rests on written guaranties given July 25 1922 as surety for negotiable papers in the bank’s property at closure. An additional suit seeks 42000 against McCormack for amounts due from notes he allegedly endorsed.

Gasoline price cuts hit Des Moines and Cedar Rapids

Des Moines reports Standard Oil of Indiana cuts gasoline price by two cents to 17 1/2 cents per gallon before tax to meet local competition. Cedar Rapids also lowers price to 19 1/2 cents per gallon before tax following comparable reductions by other firms.

Congressman Opposes Repeal Inheritance Tax

Waterloo August 28 T. J. B. Robinson Hampton third district congressman told Benson Co operative creamery patrons at a picnic he opposes repeal of the estate inheritance tax law. He urged tax burdens be based on ability, and said he will back a bill to create an agricultural commission to help keep farm product prices high by removing surplus from home markets.

Quartet Gives Musical Treat At Salem Lutheran Church

Doctor Charged in Conspiracy to Kidnap Young Son

Sioux Falls M D reports Dr K W Brimmer of Canova was arrested on conspiracy charges in the kidnapping of his three year old son Karl. The motive involved Dr Brimmer s mother Mrs Jenny Sullivan who orchestrated the child’s abduction. Brimmer posted a 200 bond and was released. a warrant for Sullivan followed.

Steck Contest 10 To Be Decided By U S Senate

Washington Aug 28 The Senate will decide whether Brookhart or Steck holds Iowa's Senate seat after a recount of 7500 contested ballots. Steck gains approach 1000 votes with 73 counties recounted, but Brookhart still leads. Final decision rests with Senate committee after remaining Woodbury county tally is completed.

Lincoln Republicans plan Des Moines conference

Francis G. Cutler of Des Moines, head of a Lincoln Republicans committee, announced a two day conference to be held next Wednesday and Thursday at the fairgrounds and a local hotel. 93yearold Creston man secures hunting license

G W Rhine 93 of Creston obtained a new state hunting and fishing license from county recorder Miss Liurg Dixon. He joked that his eyesight is still good enough to shoot squirrels with men younger than him and noted he has not needed reading glasses. He resides at 806 North Wine Street.

Two Bootlegger Slayings Near Ashburn Aviation Field

Chicago reports two men found dead near the Ashburn aviation field in what police call a bootlegger war renewal. One man resembled Irving Schlieg the aviator bootlegger tied to a Kalamazoo liquor seizure and a $10 000 contraband cargo, with Schlieg previously on bond and vanished.

Two Bank Robbers Killed by Oklahoma Posse

Kingfisher Oklahoma August 28 two men were killed by a posse near here after a Bank of Navina robbery and cashier kidnap. A third robber was wounded and captured and the $700 stolen was recovered. Bull Breaks Man's Leg at Iowa State Fair

An unruly bull broke loose at the Iowa state fair grounds last night injuring caretaker James Bollard of Waukee Iowa. Bollard tried to flee over a partition but was unable to reach safety as the bull charged. The animal reportedly belonged to Jamey Wilson of Waukee.

Assault hits editor in Burlington restaurant

Tracy Garrett editor of the Burlington Hawkeye was assaulted by Bunk Ryan of Perora Illinois while dining with his wife in a Burlington restaurant. Bystanders intervened and no injuries were reported. Ryan, previously arrested for bootlegging gambling and stabbing a man, allegedly fled the scene after speeding and hitting a child.
