Political feud ends in double shooting in New Mexico

In East Las Vegas New Mexico Sarl C Magee editor of the Albuquerque Morning Journal faced first degree murder charges after a lobby confrontation with former Judge David J Leahy. John B Lassetter died from a throat wound and Leahy was wounded as Magee fired two shots.

Auto Crash Kills Nurse and Injures Two Sisters Near Nevada Iowa

Nettie Tow aged 36 a nurse at St Luke s hospital Cedar Rapids was killed when the car she rode in collided with another on the Lincoln highway west of Nevada Iowa Two sisters Julia and Lillian Tow were wounded with Julia cut about the face and hands and Lillian injured in the eye both were taken to the Iowa Sanitarium The third sister Samh Tow was unhurt Names connected to the crash include Paul Shelton of Ottumwa Kenneth Skein Lin Boocie Clara Culver Lois Riggs and Delores Covington All three Tow sisters were Cedar Rapids schoolteachers The Shelton driven car owned by Skein was proceeding opposite and had passed another car before the smash up with both cars overturning and Sheltons party unhurt

Thirteen Injured In Railroad Wreck

Thirteen people sustained light injuries when Pennsylvania train 109 derailed near St Paris Ohio after striking a broken rail. Four sleepers a day coach two baggage cars and the engine left the track in the accident. The injured include Ina Phillips and Ernest Phillips of Edgewood Iowa.

Carl C Magee of East Las Vegas NM released to the AP a account of confronting Leahy in a hotel lobby after Leahy threatened him and attacked from behind. Magee says he shot from the floor twice more as Leahy pressed the attack, injuring his jaw and breaking ribs while Lassetter restrained Leahy. Preliminary hearing slated for Aug 26 with bonds set and editors securing high appearance bonds.

Double Slayings In Sioux City Hardware Store

Two men were shot and killed during a robbery at C. A. Larson hardware on Fourth Street in Sioux City. Victims are William Laugerson and Harry Jones. about $200 was missing from the till. Police investigate motive and whether an unidentified man was involved.

Believe Dutch Anderson On Board Sailing Yacht

Gulfport Mississippi authorities believe the small schooner Ida Q sighted 500 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico carries George Dutch Anderson, the mail robber and suspected killer of Ben Hance and his wife. The vessel linked to Anderson escaped Gulfport and was reported by the Detroit Wayne as a 55 foot sailing craft with possible crew provisions lacking.

Bandit Killed Two Cops Wounded in Bank Hold-Up

A bank robbery at the Helman branch on Ninth and Santa Fe streets left one bandit dead and multiple wounded. One officer is dying, another officer and a bystander were seriously injured, along with a second bandit amid a pistol battle.

Car stolen in Omaha found here with altered license plates

An Omaha man Ernest E. Harpster reported his car stolen from a street in Omaha Wednesday night. Police located the vehicle Friday afternoon here, stripped of tires and bearing Iowa plates 9-2107, with Nebraska 1-7465 found in the rear seat. Harpster planned to drive it back to Omaha later Friday.
