Escaped Cave-Ins At Salem Zinc Mine
Two miners Hugh Wigging Jeff and Alton Grissom escaped a cave in at the American Zinc and Fluorspar Company mine in Salem Kentucky. They heard rushing water and fled the main shaft before an avalanche buried tunnels. They aided rescue crews for a week until five men entombed below were rescued.
