Maxwell speech warns agriculture on tax and rate changes
Howard J. Clarke of Des Moines told the Story county old settlers reunion that a national movement aims to cut inheritance taxes and surcharges on large incomes while raising railroad rates. He said eastern profit centers push higher rates and urged repealing the 1920 law in favor of fair transportation charges and broader direct taxation. He noted Iowa sub committees solicit lawmakers to support the plan.
