Des Moines reports Iowa fields making good progress in the week ending July 31. Most corn tasseled with about half showing silks. hail and wind damage totaled around 25 000 in Liscomb township and Grant township. Grain quality is good with barley yields very good, oats fair to very good, and winter wheat fair to excellent. A Rex Coal and Ice Company horse died last night after being affected by the day’s heat. The sick animal collapsed in the afternoon and perished a few hours later. The horse, valued at 150 dollars by Sherman Rex, was one of the team used for ice wagon duties in the city.

Rapids Man Buys Local Gas Plants in Cedar Rapids
John A. Reed of Cedar Rapids announced the purchase of gas plants at Berle Plame and Carroll for the Yown Railway and Light corporation and the Creston plant for the Utilize Holding company. The trio, valued by Reed at 500000, gross about 100000 annually and will be operated by Reed in his name for the two firms.
