Chicago residents witnessed the execution of Sam Cardinella and fellow gangsters Joseph Costanzo and Salvatore Ferrara for a murder. Cardinella collapsed at 10 26 am while Costanzo and Ferrara were hanged at 10 45 am after delays.
George D. Lareau was found guilty of first degree murder for the February 27 killing of Matt W. Daly. The jury deliberated six hours and ten minutes before fixing a life sentence at hard labor in the district court on Thursday night in Dubuque Iowa.
Questioning of prospective jurors to hear the State against Alex R. Graves for the killing of Clarence DeVault remained in the preliminary stage at noon in Polk county district court. Some hope was expressed to obtain a jury before the afternoon adjournment.
Oscar Weil 82 composer and pioneer San Francisco resident died last night in the city. A Civil War veteran he came to San Francisco soon after the war and held several university degrees having composed operas.
In Clear Lake Minnesota on April 15 a mother dog, turned out with nine starving puppies, went door to door seeking help. She urged residents by gazing at eaters then at her hungry brood, and kept food for them until they were sated before touching any herself.
Chicago weather bulletin shows rain tonight and Saturday. The northern portion may see a mix with snow. Temperatures to fall and strong northeast to north winds expected.

Chicago bank cashier S B Witowski of Cicero shoots at a six man gang during a bank robbery. He kills one robber wounds two and captures two while the fourth escapes outside. The bandits force ten hostages into the vault before fleeing.
Belmont Pennsylvania native Robert Edw Cox, a chief gunner in the navy, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in the White House East Room on the seventeenth anniversary of his rescue of the battleship Missouri from a magazine flood after an explosion. He assisted by M Monsen and E C Schepke, later officers, who helped evacuate injured men. Thirty sailors died in the blast. Cox had been barred from the medal by law until captain of the Missouri and North Atlantic fleet commanders secured approval from President Roosevelt.
Frank Lowhone, convicted of the murder of farmer Max Nottingham two years ago, was publicly hanged at 9:05 this morning within fifty feet of the killing site and near his home where his aged mother waited for his body.
Topeka April 15. Virgil Helm a former Rock Island baggageman hid diamonds valued at more than 8000 in chewing gum tea boxes behind an inside door lock. Helm is charged with complicity in a recent 51000 jewelry robbery. Mrs Clarence Bryan and son Robert of Lenox visited Mrs Bryan's parents.
Police officer Carl Zipf collapses outside 135 Reade Street saloon. Leo Busch, the porter, rushes in with whisky to aid him and is arrested for violating the new enforcement law. Magistrate Simpson remands Busch to the grand jury in $500 bail, facing up to five years in prison.
Four armed bandits robbed two bank messengers on an Illinois Central train in Chicago. They seized two grips containing nothing but cancelled checks totaling 638000 dollars.
The standings show American League teams led by Cleveland at 1 game back, with Philadelphia and Washington also strong. Yesterday's games featured Detroit over Chicago 5 to 1 and Cleveland beating St. Louis 12 to 9. Today’s schedule includes Cleveland at St. Louis and Philadelphia at New York. Marion Thomes has returned from a business trip west, and Mrs. James Mackin plans a short Ottumwa visit with relatives and friends.
London April 15. The conference of representatives from all coal fields will meet on a date fixed tomorrow after railway and transport workers canceled their sympathetic strike. Miners secretary Frank Hodges said the decision means the miners strike would continue, disputing reports he had resigned.
Mary Bohr eight daughter of Mr and Mrs J P Bohr residing at 424 Wyoming Ave suffered a severe leg gash yesterday while playing at school. She was driven home by car and a doctor summoned five stitches were needed to close the wound. She is reported to be getting along nicely today. Mrs L E Copeland of Lenox was in the city this afternoon shopping and visiting with friends.
Richmond Virginia April 15 resolutions urging Gov Davis to take steps to prevent the Ku Klux Klan in Virginia were made public today by the Richmond chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
A midnight blaze in Hakodate Japan devoured about 4000 houses before being halted. The fire wrecked three Christian missions the British consulate several banks hospitals schools theatres and government buildings.
Des Moines police report Fred Larson a baker died in hospital from a skull fracture after being struck on the head with a sugar bowl. Bert Meyers reportedly struck the blow. Meyers claims self defense and faces murder charges.
The Hood Frances case in district court, Carl Hood and others against Benjamin Francis and C. E. Francis, began proceedings day before yesterday. The plaintiff rested before noon and the defense opened its evidence with C. E. Francis as first witness followed by Dr. Jas. Macrae. At press time Macrae remained on the stand and the trial likely to continue tomorrow.
The operetta scheduled for tonight in Kent is postponed due to bad weather and will now be performed on Wednesday evening, April 20, at the same venue with the same cast.

Washington D. C. April 15. A prohibition against shipping arms and munitions to any country believed to use them for revolutionary purposes has been asked of the state department by officials seeking an embargo on arms shipments.
Nearly five million dollars in German gold coin, the first such shipment since the war, arrived in New York aboard the Stockholm from Gothenburg. The coins were consigned to Kuhn, Loeb & Co., bankers.

London officials announce that the railway men strike due at 1 o'clock tonight is cancelled. J H Thomas, general secretary of the Railway Men's Union, cites no reason but hints at a possible split in the Triple Alliance. The transport workers strike is also called off as talks resume.
Maurice Tourneur's The Great Redeemer opens at the Willard Theatre for a two day run. The film, inspired by life, features a San Bernardino prison painting of the Crucifixion that influenced a governor to grant a pardon. The original painting, photographed for the movie, is now displayed at the Glendale Roman Catholic Church.
