Speed Car Driven By Woman Causes Accident

In Keokuk Iowa on April 13 a speeding car struck a vehicle carrying Mr and Mrs Robert Smith of Argyle. Two young boys were cut by flying glass and their mother suffered shock. All three were taken to a hospital. The woman driver was placed in custody and was to be arraigned in Fort Madison court. Bottles found in her car suggested drinking. The crash occurred four miles from Fort Madison.

Murray schoolhouse destroyed by fire

Fire of undetermined origin leveled the old Murray schoolhouse a two story brick building 80 by 100 feet housing both grade and high school erected in 1898 with nine rooms All school records and books burned as the vestibule basement start point entry was blocked Insurance covered the $19000 damage with 1000 on the building and 2000 on contents The town expects a new $75000 school to be ready within a month with commencement in it and classes moved to churches for the rest of the year

Briefs Filed in Income Tax Case by Kansas City and Baltimore Papers

The Kansas City Journal Post and the Baltimore Post filed in the supreme court today separate briefs in government appeals to punish them for publishing income tax lists. Senator Reed, counsel for the Kansas City paper, argues the Revolution and Constitution protect liberty of speech and press. Former Secretary of War Baker, for the Baltimore Post, contends there is no distinction between free speech and free press.

Bluffs Bank Messenger Vanishes With 4000 Dollar Package

William White custodian and messenger for the First National Bank of Council Bluffs disappears with a 4000 dollar currency package intended for Shelby Savings Bank at Harlan. Bank says loss insured. White under bond and not reached Lincoln for a Red Men meeting as claimed. White had worked 14 years and sent about 100 dollars from Omaha. money said to come from bird sales.

Barnwell Funeral Held for Former Creston Woman

The funeral of Mrs. Joe Barnwell, formerly of Creston, was held this morning at the Immaculate Conception church in Sheridan Wyoming at 9 oclock. Burial followed at Calvary cemetery.

Ford Inaugurates Commercial Air Line Maiden Dearborn Flight

Ford Motor company inaugurated what is described as the first U.S. commercial airline. The Maiden Dearborn all metal monoplane flew from Ford airport Dearborn at 9 24 a m carrying company mail for the Hegewisch plant near Chicago. Piloted by Eddie Hamilton the flight launches an air service linking Ford plants in Chicago St Louis St Paul and Iron Mountain Michigan. A second plane will soon begin tests.

Three Injured In Roadside Accident Near Creston

Three people including Mrs Evelyn Webb and George Henry were injured when a car driven by M F Roberts struck them while they stood on the highway east of Creston. Roberts' car then went into a ditch as Mrs Webb ditched her vehicle to avoid a collision. All injuries were minor and medical care was received at Creston.

A Creston D A R chapter marked Mt Pisgah three miles north of Talmage on Highway No. 58 to mark the 1846 Mormon migratory settlement. Primary roads of Union county are in fair to good condition after dragging once and in some places twice. No 15 via Afton was the best road to Des Moines yesterday. No 16 was good to the Adair county line but not dragged in Adair county. No 24 from Greensfield to Winterset rough in places. No 8 in Adams county was being dragged yesterday.

Governor Signs Appropriation Bill Amid Legal Questions

Des Moines April 13 Governor Hammill signed the state appropriations bill and sent it to the secretary of state awaiting an opinion from Attorney General Ben J Gibson on a change ordered by Chief Clerk A C Gustafson.
