At a Township Committee meeting the repair contract for Dey Road was awarded to Stryker & Stryker of Red Bank. They will start work immediately and complete the project this fall. Bids listed include Stryker & Stryker 7139.18 and others up to 7903.60. Mrs Wicoff’s condition improved after surgery at McKinley hospital. Mr Wicoff says doctors now have hope for recovery amid prior critical status.

The Public School opened September 25 with 200 students. Former Surrogate John Wesley Cornell Dies in Trenton
John Wesley Cornell longtime Mercer County surrogate and Republican official died at his home in Trenton on Wednesday evening at age 81. He served as Surrogate for twenty five years and will be buried tomorrow.

Mrs Jemison Funeral Held at Jamesburg Church
Funeral services for Mrs Joseph Jemison were conducted Monday afternoon at Jamesburg Methodist Church with Rev Welsefer Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Brainerd Cemetery Cranbury. She died Friday at her home after a yearlong illness from paralysis aged fifty one. Born near Union Valley to Henry Penson and Catherine Clinton both deceased she lived in Monroe Township all her life. Survived by her husband and three Jamesburg residents sons.

Fire destroys two barns on Sickle farm at Rhode Hall
A Sunday afternoon blaze at Henry Sickle’s Rhode Hall farm destroyed two modern barns with grain hay wheat and rye totaling several thousand dollars in loss. Thirty six cattle and several horses were saved. only one calf perished. The fire spread before crews arrived and the silo and farmhouse were protected. The Delco lighting system in the barns stood out among the modern features.
