Sunday School 10, worship 11 at First and Second Presbyterian churches with sermons by Rev J B Curry and Rev L E Lennox. Women and youth events, prayer services, elder meetings, and a Mothers Day tribute with carnations noted. Community Service at 7:30 with church choir.
The Presbytery of Monmouth adjourned from its April Red Bank meeting to convene in Beverly on May 18 at 7 30 for ordination of Herbert J. Jordan. Rev J E Curry of Cranbury First Church to preach the ordination sermon. President Harding to receive LLB at Princeton June 9 for memorial dedication with reception by Hibben. Cranbury Fire Company to meet May 25 at 8 at the new fire house.
Mother's Day was observed in all departments of the Second Church with an extra fine Sunday School program led by Mrs. E 8 Barclay's Class. Song readings and a solo by Irene Walker capped the class program while church services featured vocal solos by Mrs. Harvey Petty and choral music.
The Woman's Club spring reception on May 17 hosted about seventy five guests at Mr and Mrs Martin Welsh home. Princess Watahwaso of New York, an educated Penobscot Indian, performed Indian songs and life sketches with piano accompaniment by Frances Foster.
Harry N. Scott of Cranbury presented two beautiful white swans to Peddie Institute. The birds swim the full length of Peddie Lake and are welcome by townspeople and students alike. The swans were imported from Europe by Mr. Scott.
Members of Goodwins Band ready for the season and new uniforms. They will perform on Memorial Day with two engagements, at Jatmesburg in the morning and the races in Freehold in the afternoon.
The Friday Club of Hightstown extends a cordial invitation to the Womans Club of Cranbury for a May 25 lecture by Marian Atwell, current events lecturer, at Peddie Chapel at 4 p m. The notice calls members to attend, noting it as a privilege.
Miss Sara Applegate of Cranbury married Dr George W Williams of Trenton on Tuesday at St Anthony Church. Rev Father Alphones officiated. Attendant was Miss Marjorie Williams, best man William Kelly. The couple left for a motor trip and will live in Trenton. Miss Applegate is related to the Applegates of Cranbury and a 1922 St Francia Nursing graduate. Dr Williams is Georgetown University trained and World War veteran.
The James C. Laird farm on the Allentown to Robbinsville road, formerly Clark Dilatush’s, comprises 60 acres with stock and crops. Frank E. Dickey of Houston Maine bought it, with immediate possession. Sale conducted by W H Johnson. Pioneer Grange No 1 to meet at Dayton May 23 at 7:30 PM. A class of seventeen to be initiated with music, an address by Deputy William M Cox, and social hour.
Mrs Rebecca A Lee wife of the late Samuel Lee died Sunday at her Camden home after a period of poor health since his death a few months ago. Funeral services were held at her Camden residence Wednesday at 11 o clock with interment in the Second Presbyterian Cemetery Cranbury.
Perrine Mount died at his home in Hightstown after several months of illness. He was 68 and survived by his wife two children Jonas Mount and Mrs. Charles Wyckoff of Hightstown and two brothers Samuel Mount of Hightstown and George Mount of Trenton. Funeral services were held at his North Main Street residence conducted by Rev. Harry E. Owings and Rev. Thomas Tyack. Bearers were the deceased’s nephews. Interment followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery Hightstown under A. S. Cole Son Co of this place.
The Woman's Club will travel to the Woman's College in New Brunswick next Wednesday May 24. They depart at 2 PM from the home of Mrs. J B Silvers for the excursion.
Mrs E C Wilson head of Second Church is named president and organizers for the Peddie Concert with Mrs Frederick Schweitzer chairing the general committee and sub committees including transportation. Dollar Day on May 23 in New Brunswick promises the greatest cooperative sale with wide merchant participation and dollar-value gifts. Steinbach's Asbury Park marks its Fifty Second Anniversary Openings from May 20 to May 27 with extensive store remodels and 16 page booklet previews.
Senator Joseph Frelinghuysen of New Jersey denounces a New York Times story linking his name to a bid to reclaim property from the Alien Property Custodian. He calls the article scandalous and libelous and says he had never heard of the German firm Upmann & Co. or related Havana Bankers affair.
