The notice lists preaching by the pastor on Sunday morning with the theme Thou Shalt Not Steal and a 7 30 P M Sunday School session followed by a second sermon The Judgment Everyone is invited to attend both services, especially the evening service.
The Rev Mr Foote of Penns Neck church will deliver the sermon next Sunday, preaching to the congregation and inviting parishioners to attend the service.
The Second Church will hold a Sunday evening meeting in the chapel led by Miss Sara Applegate. The program is titled Gems from My Reading and invites parishioners to share insights from personal study.
Dredging began at Peddie Lake with the Richards Dredging Company taking the first bucketful at 3 30 PM on Friday November 20. Townspeople and residents expressed disappointment but expect rapid progress and completion by early spring.
The engagement is announced of Rev. Walter 8 Davison of Bath New York son of Joseph V Davison of Hights town to Miss Eloise Hollett daughter of Mr and Mrs R P Hollett of Evans ton Illinois.
The Corona Club will meet next Wednesday evening with Mrs. Fannie Van Derveer.
The J F F Club met Monday evening with Mr and Mrs Jones Dey. The club has fourteen members after recent additions including Mr and Mrs Le Roy Scott and Mr and Mrs G A Bennett.
At the communion service of the Second church seven persons were received into membership. One by certificate and six upon profession of faith: Mrs Lottie B. Walker Enid Walker Anna Inlay O'Neil Ednn Anna Walker Louisa Schnell Stella May Laban Anna Schock.
At the last regular meeting of Apollo Lodge No. 156, F. and A. M., the master mason degree was conferred on contractor Marcus Wright of South River and Wilbur McCardell of Jamesburg.
The Pioneer Grange gathering Tuesday evening was well attended and engaging. Mr. W. H. Havens and Mr. Albert Titus reported on the State meeting in Atlantic City last week. Mrs. J. B. Perrine contributed notes, and Andrew Perrine and Carleton Campbell were initiated as new members.
The Hightstown Chautauqua Committee fixed the 1915 event from June 17 to June 28 and the Swarthmore Chautauqua association has accepted this date.
At Atlantic City the annual meeting chose Walter H. Havens of Cranbury as Overseer of the New Jersey State Grange. Havens accepted with a graceful speech and is expected to serve well. Miss Carolyn Allinson of Allentown was named Lecturer amid noted Grange activity.
At the New Brunswick horticultural meeting this week Orchardade products and John H. Barclay of Cranbury earned top honors. Barclay won first on Baldwin apples Grimes Golden Jonathan Macintosh Nero Paragon Rhode Island Greening Rome Beauty and Brayman Winesap and second on White Ohio Pippin plus best of other apples exhibited.
Mrs Katherine Applegate wife of Clarkson B Applegate died Tuesday morning after a brief illness at her Cranbury home age 58 Her birth name was Katherine Patton Her brother was Mayor Patton of Jamesburg Funeral services were held at her home and interment followed at Cranbury She leaves her husband three children Mia Clarence Ely Willard Howard and three granddaughters Clara Alberta Applegate and Marie Ely.
Dr H D Gihon longtime Trenton dentist died Sunday at his home 185 South Broad street in his seventieth year after a two year illness. He practiced dentistry for fifty four years and left a large practice. His son Harry D Gihon Jr was associated with him.
Selah W. Gulick, unmarried elder son of Redford J. Gulick, died after a prolonged illness. He had spent time in Pittsfield mass and returned to his parents home in poorer health. Survived by his parents a brother Dr John Gulick of Schenectady N Y and two sisters Mrs Daniel Croshaw and Mrs J J Bradley of Cranbury. Funeral conducted by Rev J E Curry at the father’s residence with interment at Brainerd cemetery under A S Cole Son Co supervision.
Jeannette Kling is praised as a brilliant versatile reader whose personality and talent captivate audiences coast to coast. Her engagements include up to twelve recitals in a single city and her work as official field representative of the Drama League of America.
The Reading Circle gathered on Wednesday led by Mrs. Samuel Perrine. Members shared readings by Mrs. Davison Mrs. M E Bergen Mrs. Emmons Mrs. J B Perrine Mrs. Samuel Perrine and Mrs. Stults between musical pieces on the victrola.
Mr and Mrs David J Perrine celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with a reception at their River Road home near New Brunswick attended by over 100 guests. Mr Perrine, a Middlesex County agriculture leader, and his wife a First Reformed Church member were praised for farming success and community service. The event featured Van Kirk's Orchestra, a formal decor with pink and white arrangements, and generous gifts including silverware and glassware.
About fourteen ladies met to sew garments for the Belgium Relief Society and organized a church Aid Society. Elected officers include Mrs. G. A. Burslem president, Mrs. A S Reed first vice president, Mrs. H W Jeffers second vice president, Mrs. H A Stults secretary, Mrs. Frank Perrine treasurer. Meetings set for every third Thursday. January 21 meeting at Mrs. T C Perrine’s home.
In the Pullen household illness spread from grip to pneumonia. Mrs Martha Ann Shotwell aged 84 and Miss Lucretia Shotwell aged 79, mother and daughter of Mrs Pullen, died within days. Funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a m at Emerson Pullen’s homenear Hightstown.
Mrs Sarah M Hagerman wife of John Hagerman of lower Jamestown died December 1 at her husband’s home after suffering a paraly sis attack Friday night while preparing supper. She never recovered.
Mrs Verne Shaffer of Vandergrift Pa says Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is her children’s go to for colds and coughs and claims it is superior to other medicines. She urges others to try it. For sale by all dealers.
General Richard A. Donnelly 1841 1905 is honored with two memorial windows in Trenton lodge of Elks presented by his son Frederick W. Donnelly. The windows commemorate the first Exalted Ruler and mark Civil War service with military titles and dates, plus notes on the family business and civic work in Trenton.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mason were surprised at their Cranbury area home on Wednesday evening to mark the couple’s marriage anniversary with loved ones gathering nearby.
