Rural mail carriers see substantial salary boost begin July 1
Beginning July 1, rural carriers receive a substantial pay increase. Standard six day routes of 24 miles year pay 1074 dollars annually, paid monthly, with 475 dollars per mile annually for every mile over 24. For routes under 24 miles, a corresponding reduction applies. Fractions of a mile over 24 are charged as full miles.

Severe lightning storm hits Hightstown area causing damage
A fierce electrical storm moved through Hightstown, Edinburgh, and neighboring towns on Monday. It brought heavy rain and vivid lightning, frightening residents and damaging farms, including A. Lavine’s on the Edinburg back road where a barn burned after a lightning strike, about $2,000 in losses.

Miss Florence Gibson attended the funeral of her nephew Andrew Van Pelt Jr in Elizabeth on Monday. Rev Henry Hale Fifford of Grace Church conducted the service at his father Andrew P Van Pelts home. The rector praised his life and character. Nellie Barr and Mrs John Bartlett sang during the service. He was 28 and ran a restaurant in Elizabeth and once belonged to the Century Wheelmen of America with wins on Long Island tracks.

Mrs Matilda Voorhees Dies After Short Illness
Mrs Matilda Ann Voorhees of Hightstown died Friday night at home on Morrison Street after a brief illness. She was born near Manalapan to William P P Dey and Hannah Clark Dey and survived by her husband Daniel McLean Voorhees and four children, including Wm C Voorhees, Harvey M Voorhees, Edmund D Voorhees, and Mrs Henry I Varian. Funeral services were held at her home conducted by Reverends Tyack and Van Dyke with interment in Brainerd Cemetery Cranbury.

Cranbury Defeats Perth Amboy for Middlesex County Title
In a keen battle at Peddiefield Cranbury beat Perth Amboy 5 to 2 to clinch the Middlesex County championship. Kike fanned 16 and allowed four hits as Amboy failed to respond after the first inning. A big crowd witnessed the game and plans to travel to Hightstown to see Cranbury’s next match against Morrisville, Pa. Dey's stage line will transport fans. admission is 15 cents. Cranbury also meets New Egypt on Labor Day.

Russell Earle 16 sustained a base skull fracture jaw fractures and a broken nose after an elevator trapped him between the lift and wall on the third floor at the Smyrna Bug plant in Hightstown He was taken to St Francis Hospital in a car provided by Charles Dennis and is improving Doctors Titus and Reddan treated him as his Princeton parents and Hightstown friends rushed to the hospital.

Boy on Wheel Collides With Automobile in Asbury Park
In Asbury Park on a Saturday evening a newsboy on a wheel dashed into Arthur E. Perrine’s car on Kingsley Street near Westminster and Arborton. Dominick Bruno fourteen suffered head bruises but is recovering. Basil Bruno, his elder brother, arranged transfer papers. Perrine reported the incident to police and later to the hospital where Bruno was treated and then released to his parents.
