What Prevents Young Men From Getting On
A 19th century moral piece argues poverty fuels ambition and warns against idleness. It claims success comes from personal effort, not luck, and criticizes young men who blame times or rely on opportunities. It decries wasted time, indulgence, and poor priorities while urging enterprise and integrity. Includes a local testimonial for Electric Bitters.

Barnegat City Fire Destroys Business District
A major blaze Sunday afternoon leveled much of Barnegat City's business area along Bay Street. The fire, likely sparked by a lightning strike on a telephone line, originated in Aaron Burchell’s grocery and spread to W. T. Conrad’s hardware and lumber yard and Horace Sprague’s grocery before reaching Benjamin Podmore’s residence. Rain, wind shifts, and bucket brigades helped contain it, with losses estimated between 40 000 and 50 000. The event ended by 4 o'clock as crews fought the flames.
