Earl Jemison Dies After Wagon Runaway
Earl Jemison of Hightstown, recently hired by Glenn & Co. grocers of Trenton, was thrown from a frightened delivery wagon when the horse bolted on Monday. He sustained fatal injuries and died from the accident.

Reverend John Murray Attacked Near Mission in China
Rev. John Murray of the American Presbyterian Mission at Tsi Nan Fu was assaulted by Chinese on March 28 about seventeen miles north of the mission. He was badly injured and returned to the mission with a government escort. Authorities report the assailants are jailed and officials express concern for his recovery. Murray, son-in-law of Mrs. Alfred Rue, has three sons and a daughter, Helen. He has served in China since 1875 with a brief break and returned to China last fall after visiting the United States.

Fire destroys barn in Emma Snow property incident
Fire last Friday night discovered at ten o'clock destroyed Lewis Appleget and others’ barn on Emma Snow property. Haley saved his wagon but Appleget’s horse wagon and harness were burned. Insurance covered Appleget loss. Wa Perrive’s uninsured automobile also lost. Firemen and locals fought the flames. the barn was saved with only a small hay mow damaged.

Pearse Named Middlesex Surrogate With Broad Backing
F M Pearse was appointed surrogate for Middlesex County this afternoon and will serve from today through January 1 1912 with a salary of 5500 dollars yearly. The selection followed political pressure from Senator George Silzer and faced opposition from Deputy Surrogate Daniel W Clayton and party leaders though most questioned Pearse’s qualifications. Pearse, about 30, practices law in Newark and is son of Rev H M Pearse rector of Christ Episcopal Church South Amboy. He serves as City Attorney of South Amboy and ran unsuccessfully for Assemblyman in 1903.

Hightstown Men Sentenced for Highway Robbery
Charles B Hutchinson and Earl Gravatt were sent to New Jersey State Prison for seven years each by Judge Gnichtel at Mercer Court. They robbed Reuben Moore on a road near Ezra and Hightstown, taking about $80. The judge cited community protection and noted Hutchinson’s prior prison records and Gravatt’s terrorizing conduct.
