Fall Fair observers praise the event despite rain and snow cutting entries. The Herald calls the fair a success with strong displays in women’s work culinary arts and produce and notes livestock figures and improved grounds aiding next year’s plans.
Grand Chancellor Jas Fairfoull of the Dominion Knights of Pythias visited Crescent Lodge No. 33, with Kimberley brethren attending. His address inspired members, drawing praise from Cranbrook and Kimberley attendees, followed by a luncheon.
Cranbrook and St Eugene Hospital were chosen for a key clinic tied to the Extra Mural Post Graduate Year of British Columbia in Sept-Oct 1926. Seventeen East Kootenay doctors, led by visiting speakers from Winnipeg and Kamloops, will attend. The event aims to form a local East Kootenay Medical Society and will be limited to doctors and nurses with similar meetings planned for Nelson and Kamloops.
Hon Dr J H King, East Kootenay member elect, writes from Ottawa thanking voters for September 14 support. He notes altered plans after being called by Mackenzie King, outlines an eventual tour of Cranbrook Kimberley Fernie and Golden, and pledges to pursue better industrial and commercial activity while serving all electors. He expresses gratitude for Liberal and cross party backing and for campaign workers.
The noon train marked the departure of the elephant Charlie Ed in Cranbrook as Mayor Roberts rechristened him Cranbrook Ed with champagne. The event honored Sells-Floto Circus staff and local workers, including trainer Ironsides, and featured a presentation to Miss Marie Patterson before Cranbrook Ed headed to San Francisco for circus duties.
The Conklin and Garrett All-Canadian Shows Company earned praise for fair dealing with Cranbrook Gyro Club despite tough weather. Manager Conklin went out of his way to aid performers, and while the company faced losses, the local group received generous compensation, reflecting the show’s strong reputation.
The Herald acknowledges expressions of appreciation from Liberal Labor and Conservative supporters for its campaign conduct. It says such commendations are welcome and will strengthen its commitment to credit opponents’ honesty while condemning unprincipled deception.
An adjourned city council meeting chaired by Mayor Roberts approved the last meeting's minutes and passed $10 738.16 in accounts. Reports from Dr J W Rutledge and Fire Chief Adams detailed dairy standards and recent fire alarms with minor damages noted.
Annie Shaw wed Rowland F. Cox in a calm ceremony at the Presbyterian manse with Rev. Blackburn officiating. Attendant Miss Grace Jones and best man Sam Ratcliffe. couple to Calgary and Vancouver then Cranbrook. Left amid confetti as Scotty Malcolm kept guests amused.
After three weeks of ticket sales for fall fair grandstand seats the Gyro Club drew a Chevrolet coach prize. A. Benvenute of Wycliffe held ticket 1025K, but Miss Marie Patterson of Cranbrook won the top prize for most tickets sold and chose a wardrobe from McCreery Bros. The standings show Miss Patterson ahead of Miss Phyllis Small and Miss Gwen Slye amid favorable weather and good sportsmanship.
The Sisters of Charity St Eugene Hospital announce the graduating class commencement on Thursday at 8 o'clock in Nurses Hall. Class colors blue and white, flower chrysanthemum, motto Gaudium Ingenium Sympathia. Miss May Williams Cranbrook, Miss Susie Diebolt Vancouver, Miss Mildred Clarke Cranbrook in the class roll. Rev. Sydney Newby of Creston officiated. Bride wore pink georgette. groom's party included Edward Walch as best man. The couple left Creston amid confetti for their honeymoon to coast points.
A report shows Central School enrolment up by eighteen and total district enrolment at R14, with all schools adding pupils. Twenty six teachers oversee seventy seven pupils in Grade, and Cranbrook High School records a total enrolment of 150 across multiple grades under principals and vice principals.
The fall fair prize list lists winners in poultry classes including Brahmas Cochins Langshans Plymouth Rocks and Leghorns with multiple awards to W Harvey Mrs J Pattinson and A B Smith among others. The document notes class numbers and winning positions like first second and third across breeds and sections with reference to continued coverage on page four.
The Odd Fellows of Cranbrook and Kimberley host an official visit by Grand Master Ro A Perry of Vancouver and District Deputy Grand Master Hro J Johnson. Welcome addressed by Noble Grand F Russell, with BC lodge prosperity noted. The evening marks the 16th anniversary of Maple Loaf Rebekah Lodge as entertainment is shared between the two orders.
The Cranbrook Rod and Gun Club showcased a large aquarium featuring fish from local waters including Kamloops and rainbow trout from venues such as Horseshoe and Moyie Lakes. Whiting and Doug earned praise for securing the specimens amid noted difficulties.
