Crowds Bid Goodbye to Volunteers at Cranbrook Sendoff
The final sendoff for the Cranbrook contingent drew over 2500 people at the CPR station. Acting Mayor Campbell awarded each volunteer seven dollars and fifty cents from the smoker and dance proceeds. The procession, bands, Scouts, and schoolchildren followed the volunteers to the Government building, then to the station as flags waved along Baker Street and crowds cheered until the train departed for Valcartier with 150 West Kootenay and 93 East Kootenay volunteers aboard.

Fall from train kills Kootenay volunteer member
William L. Reid of Grand Forks died after falling from an eastbound train and being struck by a westbound coach as he lay on the track.
