A small Cranbrook gathering chaired by Mayor A C Bowness set plans for the curling season. A meeting on November 4 will elect officers and organize rink prep, with a likely banquet on the schedule.
Thomas W. Wilby completed a Halifax to Victoria transcontinental tour in 49 days with 3900 miles traveled by car. The journey faced heavy rainfall and swampy ground, especially in Manitoba and Ontario, but averaged 95.18 miles per day despite delays.
Miss Dorothy Davis from Vancouver visited to organize a local branch of the British Columbia Woman's Political Equality League. She postponed a public meeting to December 1, with time and place to be announced. P B Wilson will chair the event.
Ottawa reports at noon the oath of office was administered to Louis Coderre for Hochelaga as secretary of state, succeeding W I Roche. Robert Rogers becomes minister of public works succeeding F D Monk and W J Roche becomes minister of the interior. Dr Paquet resigns as government whip for Quebec.
The Foss Lumber Company of Winnipeg wins a ruling that sized lumberplaned on one side and reduced on the other three sides remains duty free under current customs acts. The decision names the King and the British Columbia lumber firms in the case heard today.
Special correspondence notes Cranbrook, aided by city, board of trade, and Agricultural association, made a strong showing at the Dry Farming Congress in Lethbridge. Despite a late East Kootenay building, local workers and volunteers decorated and staffed the display, featuring minerals from Perry Creek and St. Eugene, plus grains, fruits, vegetables, and lumber products. Cranbrook officials and supporters highlighted civic marketing needs and lauded Hon. Price Ellison for backing regional advertising. Twenty thousand visitors viewed Cranbrook’s exhibit over five days, with praise for the display and calls for broader Canadian advertising efforts.
Mix F. McD. Smith of Morrisburg, Ont., arrived for an indefinite visit with her brother A. B. Smith. The essay argues against using patriotism to smear political opponents and defends Canada’s ties to Britain, recalling Loyalists and urging restraint at election time.
