The Empress of Canada, twin screw liner built for trans Pacific service by Canadian Pacific Ocean Services, was launched at Fairfield Shipbuilding in Govan Scotland. The ship measures 653 feet by 77 feet 9 inches, with 22 000 tons gross and capacity for 490 first class, 106 second, 238 third class passengers and 547 crew. It features silk cargo space, 21 knot speed, Lloyds class and Bulkhead Convention compliance, a central telephone exchange, and a 325-seat dining saloon plus a swimming pool and gym. Maiden voyage from Liverpool planned for March 16, 192.
