City Council Holds Monthly Meeting with Water and ByLaw Actions

The city council chaired by Mayor Bowness convened to approve minutes and accounts notably for stenographers fees. It discussed water dam repairs and reservoir capacity and referred two bylaws on water and electric wiring to respective committees for near term reports. The meeting closed with adjournment after referrals.

Cranbrook School Board Appoints Truant Officers

Cranbrook school board met at city hall on Friday November 5th with Mr H White chairing. A motion made by Trustee Manning and seconded by Henderson required all children seven to fourteen in the district to attend school daily during regular hours with exemptions under the School Act. Janitors Davis and Logan were named Truant Officers for South Ward and Central school, principals to notify officers of absentees. The meeting approved salaries and supplies and adjourned. An announced sermon in Arrowhead West Robson area was shifted due to boat service changes while Elsie Wilson leaves Friday for Lethbridge for a job.

Tanbrook Couple Married at Vancouver

The marriage of Mr. C. E. Barber of Cranbrook Drug & Cook Co to Miss Gertrude Wade of Vancouver was solemnized October 26 at the bride’s father’s home in Vancouver. The couple will tour the West and settle at Norbury to aid Edwards Street.

Rex Theatre Case in Police Court

The case against W B McFarlane, manager of A A Johnson and Co lessees of the Rex Theatre, for allowing Elmer Smith to operate the movie machine without a license, was heard by Magistrate G F Stalker. Witness Arden testified and defense argued lack of proof McFarlane was manager. decision reserved. Chief Welsby continued investigations in Cranbrook later.

Red Cross Workroom Volunteers For Week

Those sewing at the Red Cross rooms for the week ending November Sth were listed by day with convenors and groups. Monday’s group included Mrs Green and Mesdames King Thompson Phillips Christie J 8 Brake Worden Nisbet Maisie and Miles. Tuesday’s roster featured Mrs Shackleton as convenor with Mesdames McBride Mec edy. Thursday’s group led by Mrs W H Wilson included Mesdames Leslie Cherrington Palmer Taylor Salmon and Halsall. Friday’s convenor was Mrs Barney with Mesdames Barrington Shaw Wilson McDonald Tisdale McBurney Spence King Coutts and Marshall. Mrs Bowness, Mrs Miles and Mrs Shackleton served on the cutting committee for the month.
