Hallowe'en Masked Ball Proves Grand Local Success
The St John Ambulance mask ball at the Auditor ium on Friday culminated in a highly successful event. Decorated in true Hal lowe'en style, it drew a gay, varied crowd with costumes from Persian princesses to Santa Claus. Prizes went to a Venetian peasant and a student, while the Cranbrook orchestra supplied strong music and refreshments were well managed by the supper committee. Net proceeds totaled 109 dollars for Christmas gifts to Cranbrook boys overseas.

In a Sunday gathering at the YMCA a new Cranbrook YMCA Bowling Club was organized with officers led by President A C Harshaw and Secretary D M Cowan. Five teams applied for the ten pin league with a schedule starting November 6, including Offices Tigers City Shops and YMC A. Trophies will honor top team and high individual averages. league play will occur Monday Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Prospects Bright for Poultry Show
The Cranbrook Poultry Association executive met Tuesday to push the forthcoming show with plans for many outside entries from Ivermere Windermere Fernie and Creston fanciers. An Oriental cup was offered by Mr Beattie of Waldo and several other specials have been pledged recently. The committee will finalize prize lists after more donations arrive and members are asked to contact the secretary about wheat orders in the coming days.

Christmas Presents fund drives for soldiers on trenches
At a St John Ambulance Association meeting the group planned a Sock Day fundraiser to supply comforts for soldiers on the front. Donations were pledged by Mrs J M Coutts and others, with requests for handkerchiefs, tooth brushes, lace, lard, candy, cigarettes, pipes, puzzles, stories, pencils and writing paper to be gathered by Tuesday at the latest.

Women’s Institute Donate Hospital Bed Initiative
On Tuesday afternoon the Cranbrook Women’s Institute unanimously donated funds to purchase a hospital bed. The committee, led by Mrs. Barney and Mrs. Ormiston, allocated sums including 1.15 dollars from a local fund and 2.00 dollars from M. B. Coutts, financial secretary. Attendees included Lieut. T. H. Banfield and Rev. Father Anthony.

Frances Washington Barton a Creston resident and former Cranbrook youngster passed away at age 14 after a period of illness. The community mourns the loss of a bright student and beloved daughter of Mrs J M Barton with funeral held Monday. teachers and classmates attended, and funds are noted to support wounded soldiers through the Cranbrook Women's Institute.

Public School Concert Set for Friday Evening at Cranbrook
Cranbrook patrons are urged to attend a public school concert next Friday at 7.15 pm in the school auditorium. Tickets are limited and must be exchanged for numbered seats. proceeds go to patriotic causes.
