Death of William Haslam Conductor Fells Rail Worker's Family

William Edmund Haslam, a longtime CP Rail conductor born in St Thomas, dies after a Friday train accident near Tochty Ireland Creek. An inquest by Coroner Dr MacKinnon yielded few facts, with services at Christ Church and a large funeral cortege. He leaves a widow and two sons, plus siblings and relatives across Ontario and Alberta.

Insurance of Parcel Post for Great Britain

The postmaster reports that parcel post to Great Britain may be insured under the same terms as Canada deliveries from mid November. Insurance fees: 12 cents up to $50, 80 cents for $50 to $100. The three and six cent fees are canceled for Great Britain. The note follows a Christmas mailing advisory.

In Invermere BC Nov 7 residents of the East Kootenay district report halt in Dominion Government line construction linking Golden with Cranbrook and other cities. The crew was recalled near Wasa due to exhausted funds. efforts are made to resume and speed up work with officials' consideration.

Local resident dies after horse kicks abdomen

David Bert Moore 53, a Cranbrook resident of 22 years, died Friday morning at St Eugene Hospital from injuries after a horse kicked him in the abdomen. He leaves a widow, seven brothers and one sister, mother, and two sons and five daughters. Funeral held Monday at 20 with Rev. B C Freeman officiating. Orange Lodge members and pallbearers named.

Cranbrook Musical Society presents sacred concert

The Cranbrook Musical Society plans a sacred concert at Presbyterian Church on Armistice Day Sunday November 11. Mrs Forrest Miss Fink Mrs Thompson and Mrs Norgrove will perform duets. The orchestra will back and the choral branch performs Mendelssohn and Handel selections with organ. Members to attend final rehearsal at 8 p.m. Sunday. Rehearsals begin Monday for Trial By July as second part of Christmas program.

Indians of Canada to be shown at Methodist Church

Pictures of Indian life and customs across Canada will be shown at the Methodist church next Sunday evening. The slides are prepared by the church mission department to aid better living among the people. The event features wood projector tech and follows a recent coastal trip by Mr and Mrs Garnham.

Tuesday afternoon the Women's Institute held a regular meeting with Mrs. George Taylor presenting a paper on the origin and development of the institute. Miss Garland contributed two sales and plans for the cookery sale at the G W V A hall on Saturday November 10 were finalized.

Poppy Tribute for Unknown Fallen Soldiers

A short war memorial poem honors dead comrades buried in cold earth. It reflects on ongoing conflict despite their sacrifices and recalls heroism over sacred graves beneath waving poppies. The speaker recalls returning to unknown graves and paying respect to fallen stalwarts.
