The census for Cranbrook within the planned town limits shows 1610 residents, excluding areas near the garden plat northeast of the school house and other neighboring settlements. Estimated total in the incorporated area and adjacent zones ranges from 2200 to 2100, with 140 total counted under 27 years and a breakdown of males and females over and under 21 and 27.
A vin club organized in Cranbrook with HL V Baker as president J E M Pinkham as secretary and Mr Agnew and Mr Moffatt on the executive committee. Shooting grounds will be behind the sash and door factory.
Funeral services for Ft. H. Laidlaw were held at Beatty undertaking rooms with Rev. Beacham. The remains were sent by last Friday’s train to Toronto. Pallbearers included Paul Handley, G. Pairfield, D. McFarlane, H. Thomey and H. Drew. The deceased was insured for $20,000.
A two and a half mile pole road built by Robinson-McKenzie Lumber Company aids operations along a mile of route where over twelve hundred thousand feet of lumber have been skidded. Supervisor Walter Machirlane, aged around fifty, leads a diligent crew. he has thirty years of experience in the trade.
The Elk River Power and Light company has begun operations at Elko to develop Elk River power and construct an electric road from Elko to Michel with possible extension to Cranbrook.
The Moyie and St Eugene operations report strong ore shipments and near peak concentrator capacity with Moh Sullivan arriving from Oakland to become superintendent. Dominion Day festivities are planned with boat and foot races, dancing, and a pavilion event as Moyie prepares for years of prosperity. Local residents and visitors from Cranbrook Vancouver and Minneapolis are noted along with moves by M A Beale and J O Sullivan.
The region faces cold snaps after a mild spell with 0 heat and rising Kootenay river levels at about one foot daily. Railway figures inspect routes to Fernie and Michel with two weeks of grading work planned. Officials from Great Northern and other firms arrive, bronze boundary monuments may be planted, and local business and travel activity increases as new houses and transport options emerge.
Laurie Laurie and Robert J. Laurie of Cranbrook united with Annie Laurie of Chatham in a simple ceremony at John Laurie’s residence officiated by Rev Fortune. Groom works as foreman at Caruthers mills and the couple will live near the mill. Herald extends congratulations.
A Robinson Melenzie Lumher worker named Don Smith was felling trees when a gust felled a branch toward him. He was knocked unconscious but another tree broke the impact, saving him from severe harm. He sustained injuries described as bruises.
Last Saturday the McPeak boy fell under logs while fishing at the mill pond. A Chinese cook risked crossing the logs to reach him and pulled him to the surface. Both were thrown back into the water when the logs shifted. The boy was saved after resuscitation efforts, and a ban on pond fishing was ordered to prevent future trouble.

Describes land parcels in South East Kootenay with specific lot numbers, boundaries, mileage, and railroad references. Also another notice dated May 21 1904 regarding a timber license to cut and carry away timber on lands in South East Kootenay with detailed boundary calls and parcels.
A meeting of the Conservative association will be held at the office of G H Thompson on Thursday night June 2 at eight oclock. Secretary GH Thompson urges all members to attend due to important business.
A Jaffray physician, Dr Gillier, writes to The Herald asking the paper to eulogize the jury and judge who presided over his murder trial in which he was acquitted. He requests praise for Crown prosecutor Mr McKann and especially defense lawyer S. S. Taylor, whom he says has relieved the profession of its alleged dishonesty and nullity.
Constable Morris departed today for the asylum at New Westminster with an insane man named Haer ins.
Hon. F J Fulton of Kamaloops was returned by acclamation after Liberals declined to contest with only days left in the campaign.
Mitchell of Kornie defeats Nevin of Macleod in two heats to claim the big foot race title and also wins the 220 yard race at the Calgary sports meet.
