Fink Mercantile Plans New Warehouse and Club Building

Cranbrook news notes specify Fink Mercantile to erect a stone and galvanized iron warehouse on Durick avenue adjoining F Dezail's business. The Men's club plans a back of Methodist church building with a 20 by 40 foot swimming pool, locker rooms, showers, and a gymnasium. Plans include basement, ground floor gym, and upstairs reading room, with concrete foundations under the current gym. Tenders soon. plans prepared by F S Rosseter. Army Estimation Shows Increased British Expenditure

London reports the British army budget for 1912-13 at 139.3 million dollars, up 850 thousand from 1911-12. The rise stems largely from aviation spending, with 800 thousand allocated for aeroplanes. A military aviation school and workshops for army and navy officers will be built on Salisbury Plain.

Marvellous Progress of Aviation in Early 20th Century

The period 1908 to 1911 shows rapid gains in distance and duration of flights and in height and speed. Wilbur Wright flew 77 miles in 1908, Farman 144 miles in 1909, Tabateau 362 miles in 1910, Fourny 447 miles and Gobe 262 miles last year. Wrights aloft times rose from 2 hours 20 minutes in 1908 to longer records. Farman, Gobo set hours-long durations. speeds climbed from 40.5 mph to 82 mph by Nieuport in 1911, marking striking progress in early aviation.
