Paper chase and town notes fill Cranbrook page

J P Barrell of Moyie and William Eschwig of Fertie were in town. A football game is planned between Foot Steele and Cranbrook. The Republic fire caused about 70000 in losses. Several locals announced moves and travels as business and church activity continued in South East Kootenay. Fernie coal miners went on strike briefly, unresolved after thirty days.

Lake Shore group bonds to J C Drewry for 125000

Yesterday the Lake Shore group was bonded to J C Drewry of Rossland as managing director of the Canadian Gold Fields Co Ltd for 125000. The bond runs nine months with initial cash paid and July 1 transfer of charge, then further payments at six and nine months. Lake Shore group includes several claims and a Baltimore stake near Moyie. Drewry plans to install a drill air compressor plant by July 1 and, after development, build a concentrator with 35 to 60 workers within 60 days, followed by a new tunnel and ledge sinking.

Mining Notes on North Star and Greenwood Properties

Frank Robbins of Phoenix B C and J J Laidlaw were in town Monday night and left Tuesday for the North Star mine. Robbins, a mining manager for D Mann and associates, oversees Greenwood camp and will inspect North Star and nearby properties. James T Sullivan, a Chicago mining expert, arrived Monday night and departed Tuesday for the Sullivan group to examine the property for his company.

Corpus Christi at St. Eugene Mission Draws Large Attendance

The Corpus Christi observance at St. Eugene Mission, though Bishop Dontenville missed the confirmation due to Bishop Durien’s death, marked its most elaborate ceremony in thirteen years. Communion was administered to Indians and many whites, with visitors from Wardner, Fort Steele, Moyie and Cranbrook. Children taking first communion received a golden cross inscribed with their names.

Mining claims to open on Sand creek and town notes

Wariner reports several well known mining claims on Sand creek ready to be opened. Masters Johnnie Charlie and Clarence Martin and James Beattie stay at the Mission. Locals fished Lite Bull river for trout. An extra work train at Wardner prospected rock for the bridge piers. Fort Steele men Kuratofsky and Fink visit Steele. Melane of Sand creek calls Wardner home. Kootenay rising with driftwood. A large tree struck the ferry last Sunday breaking a cable pulley and hindering river access.
