The Cranbrook Gyro Club marked its first anniversary at the Y M C A with a banquet led by Mine Host A. Harry. Guests included the Nelson Gyros as visiting members. Officers were installed by Past President Al Knights and included President A J Ren Ist, Vice Presidents W A Fergie and W J Barber, Secretary A J S Black, and Treasurer F W Burgess.

Delegates from Sullivan Lodge Kimberley expected for degree work after their lodge room was damaged by fire. Four veterans jewels to be presented to long standing members including Dr J H King Dr F W Green Bro Cox and R P Moffatt with other recognitions likely for T S Gill. Dr King may visit Cranbrook after the session to receive the jewel.

Cranbrook defeated Wardner 6 to 4 to claim an undivided second in the district standings. Bevan and Woodman homered in the 6th inning after Wardner led 4-0 through three innings. Kimberley beat Concentrator 9-4 and Wycliffe 4-2 as other Sunday results. next week Concentrator at Cranbrook, Wycliffe at Wardner, Lumberton at Kimberley.

Barnes Circus Touts Giant Show Across District
Al G Barnes Circus delighted crowds Tuesday featuring Pocahontas at the Court of Queen Anne. The train from Fernie arrived with 30 cars, touring Nelson Spokane Sandpoint and Blairmore before Fernie again. Performers include lions tigers pumas zebras elephants and Joe Martin the gorilla man. Two tiny married performers wowed audiences and the program boasted birds worth great sums. Public school and high school events followed with standout jumps and sprints.

Child Drowned at Athalmer in Swift Columbia River Current
A ten year old boy drowned after falling into the Columbia River at Athalmer. Mrs. Harry Gore, a skilled swimmer, tried to reach him but the strong current separated them. the body was recovered hours later. Burial was at Windermere churchyard. The Orthodox Greek family had recently moved from Manchuria via Russia to Canada. Bishop Doull and Rev. Atkinson conducted the burial service.

Return of Edward Knape Visits Cranbrook After 27 Years
Edward Knape formerly of this city now living in Calgary visited Cranbrook last week. He helped lay out the Cranbrook Meat market project for Union Tron Works. Knape arrived in October 1898 and helped build many early city structures including the Beattie drug store building two hotels and the first Herald office. He stopped at the Herald Office to reconnect with former staff members.
