Hon. Wm Sloan provincial minister of mines visited Kimberley from Spokane after attending the North West Mining Convention. He inspected the new mill at the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company, met party workers, and left on Sunday. He spoke at Spokane on copper bounty and Kootenay silver lead zinc mining, noting optimism for 1928 with health copper markets and a new Portland Canal development. Dr D Corsen of Fernie was in the city for a few hours Sunday.

Dominion miners study local waters for trout spawn

The Victoria Day celebrations in Cranbrook featured a diversified program with a strong G. W. V. A. committee, a perfect weather day, and a record crowd. Boxing bouts highlighted the evening, with Benham’s decisive eight round win over Lewis praised as the best bout. The parade showcase of decorated floats and autos ended at the new park where the mayor lauded the G. W. V. A. for their role in supporting the day and aiding postwar reconstr uction efforts. The Kimberley versus Wycliffe baseball game opened the day, with Wycliffe’s Pennington delivering excellent pitching before a solid turnout.

Drowning Fatality Shocks City Children Remembered
A two and a half year old boy Gordon Walkley died in a creek near his home last Thursday May 24 after wandering away from play with siblings and neighbors. His body was recovered from four to five feet of water by his father. The funeral was held Sunday at 2 30 p m conducted by Rev B C Freeman with a large floral tribute display.

Recreation Club Drives Membership Drive Next Week
Readiness for the Recreation Club membership drive scheduled June 6 to 18. Six teams cover six districts with Rotary aiding downtown. The club promises value, lists facilities including gym, pool 20 by 40 feet, heated water, baths, lockers, library, reading room, two top tennis courts and clubhouse. Fees range from 5 to 15 dollars with half due in advance.

City Team Keeps Lead In Amateur Baseball League
The Y M C A defeated the High School 8 to 6 on Friday night to pull even in the Amateur League. Woodman pitched strongly for the Y M C A as Musser started for the High School and weakened in the fifth. Wilson relieved, but the Y M C A offense continued hammering. Musser continued pitching into the sixth for the High School, and the game drew good attendance after the big celebration, with improving play and new blood.

City to test oiling streets to curb dust nuisance
A Cranbrook special council meeting approved an oiling experiment to control street dust using a 40 percent solid oil from Imperial Oil Co. Streets Baker from Van Horne to the provincial building and Van Horne to Louis Street will be treated, with a 6,000 gallon tank costing about 1000 dollars.
