Fire destroys E K mill and lumber co plant
A blaze last Wednesday devastated the Jaffray planing mill of the Kootenay Lumber Co with about 50 000 dollars in damage. Most of the equipment and roughly 300 000 feet of lumber were lost or consumed while the main building burned and two hundred feet of sorting chain were destroyed. The cause remains undetermined, suspected spontaneous combustion or overheated bearing. The mill may be rebuilt, though operations resumed at the sawmill with repairs underway.
