January 8 fixed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture for the Cran Brook Bernie Farmers Institute to organize the year. Meeting at 8 pm in government offices with secretary pro tem receiving subscriptions an hour early. Only paid members may vote in the election of officers.
In Cranbrook British Columbia on December 24 1807 V Hyde Baker owner of the Cranbrook hotel writes that Patmore Bros heating work in the hotel gives very satisfactory results and that the letter is unsolicited and may be used freely by the firm.
Last Friday in Mightons hall the Board of Trade discussed extending 21 year timber licenses and the risk of perpetual licenses. Debate covered license fees east and west of the Cascades, proposed reforms, and mentions of ground rent. Delegates P Fink I A Harvey with alternates M A Macdonald J G McCallum were elected to the Associated Boards convention at Moyie B C.
A two train collision near Brocket Siding on the C P Railway killed brakeman F Ormsby and seriously injured fireman George McKinnon and others. The east bound and west bound locomotives were badly damaged with extensive wreckage. Passengers on the Spokane Flyer assisted, and the scene drew many locals and Indigenous people who helped secure the wreckage and care for the injured. The operator at Brocket vanished after the crash.
The arbitration committee at Nelson has released its report on the St. Hugene mine water dispute at Moyie. The document meets approval from all parties, with space limits preventing additional discussion this week.
The court of revision met tonight and retained all names on the municipal voters list under the advice of Judge Wilson.
Victoria December 24 The provincial government has ordered a withdrawal of timber lands from purchase pre emption. The order suspends all staking and taking up of timber pending government decision. About 6 000 acres have been staked to date with last year returns near 275 000, spurred by the Grand Trunk Pacific railway outlook.
Charlie Parker returned to his Cherry Creek ranch Friday from Cranbrook to find his home burned to the ground and his wife and child sheltering in the barn. Local friends in Cranbrook and the district express sorrow at the misfortune, while Parker is confident the homestead will rise again from the ashes.
