Islander Disaster Off Alaska Claims 42 Dead

Victoria reports the steamer Islander struck an iceberg near Douglas Island in thick fog at 2 am and sank with 65 to 86 aboard. Captain Foote perished, victims include Mrs Ross and Dr John Duncan. Methodists Meet in Cranbrook for Kootenay District Gathering

The annual Financial District meeting of the Methodist church in Kootenay district was held in Cranbrook on Tuesday and Wednesday. Ten ordained ministers and several lay delegates attended. The district’s finances were shown to be in satisfactory shape with several new stations becoming self sustaining. Rev. S J Johnson of Kaslo led Tuesday evening meetings, addressed by Rev. T H Wright of Michel. The town’s hospitality and Cranbrook’s scenery drew praise amid a large weeknight audience.
