A party of American editors led by J. S. Dennis toured the Columbia valley via CP R lines then by private cars and steamer Isabel. They lauded Windermere lake scenery and the valley’s potential for farming and settlement, noting ore prospects and upcoming railroad development.
A. E. Watts defends selling at white price points where mill owners and line yards control trade, accusing independents of being crushed by combines and demanding supply to consumers in monopolized districts. Fernie British Columbia Aug 16 a second severe fire last night in the Coal Creek district destroyed thirteen cottages owned by the Crow’s Nest Coal company the Miners' club rooms a department store and a doctor's office. Loss estimated 100000 to 150000 with three families hard hit by prior Fernie disaster. Fire believed caused by an overturned lamp. water pressure was low and response slow. Assistance came from Fernie. mines unscathed.

Tuesday around 10 o clock a blaze gutted the Lawlor house occupied by Robert Agnew and family. Mrs Agnew and a man saved her from danger as flames and water ruined all. No injuries and origin unclear, some think a lamp overturned by children sparked the fire.

The Ladies' Aid of the Methodist church will hold a sale of work on Thursday September 2. Refreshments will be sold and many pretty and useful articles offered. Friends of the church are urged to attend and bring others. The location will be announced next week.
William Guy Brenton of Montreal and Lillian B Hobcour of Vincennes Indiana wed Monday at 4 45 PM in the Methodist parsonage officiated by Rev R Hughes. The couple plan to reside in Lethbridge Alberta.
