An East Kootenay celebration is planned for May 24 in Cranbrook with a full program from 10 a.m. including a parade and children's events, rock drilling, log sawing, and races. Veterans in uniform, a Midway, war trophies exhibit, and a big evening dance complete the day with special railway fares arranged.
Cranbrook city council chaired by Mayor Cameron passes multiple accounts total 5224.80 approves influenza relief payment 56.64 and grants 25 per month to Board of Trade. Special vote of 1 for the Navy League and invites East West Kootenay teachers to Cranbrook for 1920 convention. City engineer salary raised to 160 monthly and firemen pay to 100.00.
The Cranbrook Tennis Club reviewed the 1918 season at the annual meeting held in City Hall on Wednesday the 9th. W. Hillamore was elected Hon. President N A Wallinger is president and D M Macdonald hon secretary and treasurer. Raworth received thanks on stepping down. Revised subscriptions set at 5 for ladies 7 50 for gentlemen and 2 50 entrance fee for new members.
The City Clerk's steno grapher Miss Hyslop receives a monthly raise to $75 after council praise of her efficiency. Fire alarm procedures are debated and sent to the Fire and Police committee. Items approved include a $40 monthly hire for J A Macdonald's team equipment, two acres at 35 per acre for a gravel pit from Cranbrook Hetates Ltd, and a $650 truck purchase from Fort Steele to haul gravel. Cemetery grounds expansion is referred with a $250 limit. The annual rate rises to 39 mills due to school demand and street and bridge needs.
Local notices report Roy Gilpin returning for discharge near the coast. Dance planning includes a May 7 masquerade at Christ Church Parish Hall and a May 16 Edison Theatre dance for charity. Shoppers see Cranbrook Saddlery Co. Ltd. promoting trunks and traveling goods. Easter holidays send Mrs. Abbott and Hugh McDonald to Calgary. W C T A recipe sale precedes Easter. The Cranbrook Creamery will operate again this season after leasing the building and contents to Carlyle Dairy Company of Lethbridge for one year. Mr Johnson, fresh from military service, will manage operations starting early May with farmer support anticipated, potential full acquisition if the venture succeeds. Also, Knox Church selects Rev H M Lyon as pastor after unanimous vote, following dismissal of Rev D T McClintock.
The Mayor and four Vancouver curlers led by Bowness Kas and Richie left to compete in the Vancouver curling bonspiel starting next Monday. They aim to bring back the Kelly-Douglas trophy as Vancouver hopes for silverware.

A shotgun accident near Benedict fatally wounded Robby Boyter, 13, as he and his younger brother returned home with their father's team. He died at Cranbrook Hospital after being moved from Wardner. funeral held at Cranbrook Cemetery. The Boyter family thanks friends for support and flowers.
