Harris asserts local option does not void remonstrance law
Adlison C Harris, Indiana lawyer and former minister to Austria, argues local option planks do not nullify the remonstrance law. He explains state authority over liquor, distinguishes township remonstrance from county elections, and clarifies that a county vote asks only whether the sale should be stopped countywide, not whether liquor may be sold elsewhere. James E Watson, Republican candidate for governor, calls Harris’s analysis widely acknowledged and asserts its clarity.
