At the Williamsport Odd Fellows picnic a nine year old boy, Ralph Strumpfer, dangled from a balloon rope 2000 feet above ground. Two Chicago aeronauts rescued him from the trapeze as spectators watched, landing near a farm where his grateful parents reclaimed him with only bruises and a sprained ankle.
Notice to the public stating purchases for fall 1909 have been made and the store is ready to supply customers with latest novelties across its lines. A visit to the shop is urged to confirm the claim.
Mrs. John Foster Catherine Nave Foster died at her Attica home on September 7 at age 78 years 4 months 29 days. Funeral services were held at Beulah church Thursday at 3 pm with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The notice ends with an advertisement for ladies waists at 98 cents at W. B. Coleman.
Knox County commissioners ordered a local option vote for September 30. The political fight over the issue stretched across six months of preliminary debate.

Zion City Ill Sept 5 Overseer Voliva told a large Shiloh Tabernacle gathering his release from prison came by God not effort of himself or attorneys. He warned Methodists and merchants to leave, vowed to spend 50000 to drive them out, and claimed possession of seventeen ways to kill foes while noting he learned much in jail and prayed for two prisoners a burglar and horse thief. The release lasts until Friday with habeas corpus arguments to follow before three judges.

Fred Rohlfing, among Attica’s oldest merchants, died at his home on Mill and Brady after a long decline. In business over 40 years, he suffered a paralytic stroke March 30 and died Thursday night after a pneumonia relapse. Funeral was Sunday at his home with burial in Riverside Cemetery. New fall goods at J Loch's Stores.
The corner stone of the new Christian church at Veed erasburg will be laid next Monday afternoon at 8 o'clock with proper exercises. Dr. B. D Dutcher of Central Church Terre Haute will deliver the oration. Business will suspend during the exercises as singing will form part of the program with delegations from nearby churches expected to attend.

County Superintendent M F Livengood received a Monday letter from Elias Wegener trustee of Richland township about a smallpox case near Mellott school. Dr Evans diagnosed the case and the county health officer placed the patient under strict quarantine. The patient is Stella Shepherd of Indianapolis visiting Mellott. Schools will not begin until the scare subsides.
At the home of the bride’s parents Mr and Mrs Walter Huffer north of Covington the marriage unites Miss Ruth G Huffer and Mont L Crain. Rev Dr Palmer officiated as families witnessed the ceremony and a two course lap supper followed. The bride taught in Fountain county and the groom is a Covington resident. They will live with their parents.
Ada Simmons of Kingman Indiana and Prof W E Dodson principal at Mellott Indiana married in Danville after obtaining a license at the county clerk’s office. The couple from Covington arrived by morning train and wed at Magistrate Allen Grant's “Cupid's Annex” at 11 o'clock. They toured Danville and dined before returning to Hoosierdam.

Old Citizen Gene O A Greenley died at his Veedersburg home on Saturday evening after a two year cancer battle. He leaves a widow two sons WalterEdward and a daughter Mrs Anna Wilkey. A longtime county educator he taught before the war and for nearly forty years afterward. Funeral Monday at 2 pm from his home with Revs Cooper and Kisler officiating. Interment Bonebrake cemetery. He was highly respected and remembered for humor and early county school recollections.
On September 1 at the Presbyterian church Mrs Walker and her pupils ages six to young adults offered a thirty piece program with selections from classics. The Misses Martin and Miss Little performed quartette and trio numbers with violin solos by Wilber Stilwell and a vocal by Miss Lanius. The class reopens September 27 for theory and harmony.
