Concord Named After Fifty Year Controversy in New Hampshire
The town of Concord New Hampshire adopted its name after a long dispute over land grants from 1725 to 1774. Originally Peacock in Rumford the area was contested by Massachusetts and New Hampshire with Bow as another claimant. After decades of legal and political friction the town became independent in 1774 and was renamed Concord to honor the unity of its settlers.
