Covington voters backed the Republican ticket in a decisive local election. Mayoral and council posts shifted as Miles Heath McGeorge LaTourette and Buckner Gray Hegg Cade Crw changed hands. Democrats kept control in wards but Republicans won overall in a tight race.

Citizens from Cayuga Perrysville and Kingman met with Indianapolis Crawfordsville and Western Traction officials to urge a right of way for an interurban line. They favor a path via Yountsville Alamo Wallace Kingman Silverwood Waterman Cayuga, promising strong local support and coal region backing.
Doc Lee Harden arrived from Chicago for a lengthy visit and reports his brother Frank Harden underwent a serious leg operation at a private hospital there. The operation was painful but Frank was out of danger though extremely weak. Frank has built a lucrative furnace and roofing business since moving to Chicago.
General results indicate indepen dent voting with Ohio conceding a Democratic governor. In New York Gov McClellan the Democrat and Cleveland’s Tom L. Johnson lead in multiple cities. Indiana towns report changes between political columns but overall results stay similar with listed local winners.
Sunday morning worship at 10 40 features a sermon on Hungry and Homesick. Evening service at 7 focuses on Practical Christianity. Beginning last Sabbath, the pastor will present a series of Sunday evening discourses on Practical Christianity. All are welcome.
A misread signal caused a crash near Bowman avenue as Big Four engine 165 and C E I engine 533 collided at 6:25 AM. Brakeman Joseph Sheldon was killed, body mangled as trains were hurled from the track. Coroner’s inquest notes the engineer signals and target call prior to impact. Trains were delayed three to four hours.
Bruce Grimes has been appointed postmaster at Wallace to succeed Edgar Sheaf who recently resigned. Grimes is a business man and will, without doubt, perform the duties with honor to himself and satisfaction to the public.
J C Hughes was found not guilty by a jury after trials spanning Thursday Friday and Monday over the August 15 robbery of Ed Purple during the Sells Downs show. Partner Patterson was tried last week, acquitted by Judge Milford. County costs totaled about $300 for both cases.
John Buckley loses two valuable horses in a Tuesday night electrical storm. The animals stood in a central pasture away from trees or fences when struck. One horse sold for 175 dollars, the buyer to take possession this week, the other valued at 50 dollars.
Mayor-elect Heath starts his first term in September and serves until 1910. Clerk LaTourette and Treasurer-elect Layton also begin then, with councilmen serving through 1910. The next city election is in November 1909, four years away. The mayor will appoint non-elective officers except city attorney, while the council selects police, fire, and other city employees. A baby boy was born last Thursday to Mr and Mrs Drell Robb of Bloomingdale, eight pounds. mother and child doing well.
John E. Moore resigns from his teaching position at Beulah school in Shawnee township to take a leading role at Mecca Publishing Co. in Mecca, with a comfortable salary. Trustee Wagoner may select Nellie Barkley of Troy township to fill the vacancy as the school awaits a successor.
Attica voters backed the Republican slate in Tuesday's election, with Clark of the First ward as the sole exception. Mayor Will Reed was re-elected by larger majorities after several terms in office.
J Frank Brown son of Commissioner James Brown and Miss Marea Small wed at the bride home near Roberts in Davis township Wednesday evening with Rev David Hanly officiating. Friends extend congratulations to the couple.
Mrs Elizabeth Silva aged 75 mother of John Silva died at his home in Warren county on Sunday from heart disease. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:50 PM with interment in Baltimore cemetery.
