Odd Names of Mines Reflect Romantic Tales in West
In Deadwood Cor St Louis Republic a feature reviews how mining claims across western districts borrow romance from wives, sweethearts, and famous names. It notes Holy Terror, Gen tle Annie, Silent Julia, Annie Fraction, Josie, and Widow, among others, with stories of fortune and tragedy behind the labels. It mentions presidents, heroes, pirates, authors, racehorses, and odd pairs like Hoodlebug, Prodigal Son, and Two Bit, illustrating a culture of named claims.

Coinage at Christ's Hospital bluecoat school
