The Walled City of Manila and Its Ancient Walls
The writer recalls Manila's walled city, its expansive defenses, gates, and bastions. Descriptions cover the walls, ramparts, drawbridges, and fortifications, with emphasis on the structure’s endurance through earthquakes and time. The piece then tours districts like Binondo, San Miguel, and Santa Cruz, noting churches, schools, palaces, and cultural sites under U S. governance during martial law.
