Covington’s Growth Rolled Through Ancestral Pride And Public Service

In reflecting on Covington’s 85 years, the piece chronicles early settlement, the town’s rise as county seat, and key figures like Isaac Coleman Joseph Sloan and Dr. John Hamilton. It notes the first stores, tavern, jail, and court house, Civil War era development, and Covington’s civic and military service including Edward Hannegan and Lew Wallace, ending with a call to continued growth and public virtue. May our city endure progress in intellect, morals, wealth and liberty.
