Corn Challenge Between Rafferty and Palin Offered
Michigan farmer Michal Rafferty near Round Hill boasts superior yellow corn and issues a challenge to Fred Palin of Newtown who last year claimed the world’s best ear. Rafferty will select five bushels for Palin to match with five bushels of Palin’s corn. three disinterested judges will decide which bushel is superior to claim both loads. Rafferty grew just over 500 bushels on five acres and already sells much of it to neighbors at one dollar a bushel.

A Lucky Sequal Train Wreck Near Danville
Peoria and Eastern passenger train 44 from Peoria was wrecked 200 feet west of Gray's mine near Danville at 12 25 this morning. A break rigging under locomotive 6159 dropped to the track derailing the tank and tearing up tracks over 900 yards. The engine and several coaches remained on the rails as a steam wrecker cleared the site and a second engine was used to continue to Indianapolis.

Aged Lady Miss Avigit Coggins Dies at 83
Abigail Coggins died January 22 1910 at age 83 after a long illness. She lived with Mrs Reed for fifteen years and was born October 29 1826 in West Chester County Pennsylvania. A short funeral was held Tuesday at 10 30 AM and interment followed at Newtown cemetery. Survivors include brothers David Coggins Jonathan Coggins and sister Lydia Coggins.

She joined the Baptist church about nine years ago and lived a Christian life. Funeral services were held at her parents home Thursday at 11 o clock conducted by Rev. Turgle. Burial followed at Rockfield Cemetery. Sympathies offered to her sorrowing parents and relatives.

Obituary of Eli Davis Former Covington Carpenter
Eli Davis born April 4 1926 near Verre Haue Indiana was the eldest of seven children of James Davis and Sabie Johnson. He married Loven Cairwile August 22 1851 and lived in Covington until his wife’s death in 1890. He worked as a carpenter and died February 4 1910 in Waverly Iowa at age 83. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Fox in Mt Hope cemetery following a service at the home of Mrs Mc Comas.
