Beatty Fruit Farm of Covington Becomes Dickinson Estate
Frank Beatty started the Covington fruit farm and bore noted strawberries. S. A. Dickinson of Decatur, Sr. purchased the property, renamed it, and took charge in February. The seven acres of strawberries yield 12,000 to 18,000 crates yearly, with 3200 fruit trees including peaches plums and apples. A five acre raspberry and other small fruits operation now exists along with a jam factory and a strawberry nursery. The farm and improvements are valued at about fifteen thousand dollars.
