About Sunday school time Sunday morning ministers spoke at churches while the Indians Secular Association held a Palm Room meeting at the Claypool hotel denouncing religious observances. Nearly two hundred attendees from across the state heard speakers champion atheistic or secularist views and evolution over Christianity.

Brakeman Severely Injured on Local Train
Brakeman John Schmelig of the Big Four was badly hurt Thursday while working on the Kankakee and Seneca local at Booth. He was elevating the coupling lever when his right hand was crushed between the lever and a car, severely injuring the palm. The train had to enter Kankakee before a doctor could reach him.

Elder groom Jim Watt weds Elizabeth Shanks in Kingman
At 8 o'clock Wednesday evening in Kingman the 86 year old Jim Watt and 67 year old Elizabeth Shanks were married by Rev. Isaac Embree at the groom's brother Mike Watt home. This is Watt's third marriage and Shanks' second. They plan to live on Watt property in Kingman. The Star notes the couple's long lives and wishes them happiness. Bishop Goodsell Dies After Illness and Surgery
The Rev. Dr Daniel Ayers Goodsell D D L D resident bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church died today at his New York City residence after weeks of illness and an operation for a carbuncle. Born 1840 in Newburg New York he began ministry in 1859 and served as literary editor of the Christian Advocate 1880 1888. He became a bishop in 1888 and was appointed New York resident bishop three years ago. He marked the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination last year and had been a minister over thirty years and a bishop twenty one years. Funeral was held Tuesday at Madison Avenue M E Church. He authored works and served abroad in missionary fields.

Man Attempts Suicide Twice After Wife’s Death
Dave Murray, a 40 year old teamster, fired at least twice in a Danville saloon after his wife’s death. A shot through his hat and a graze to the forehead failed to kill him. Police took him to the station, his revolver and other items secured. He had sought morphine earlier and was held on intoxication and disorderly conduct charges to prevent further self harm.

Mrs. Sarah E. Haupt, widow of Henry Haupt, died at her home south of West Lebanon on Tuesday morning of last week from paralysis and complications. Born May 7, 1849 in the locality, she lived there all her life. Her husband died from a fall from a hay load in April 190x. She leaves seven children, three sons and four daughters. Funeral held Thursday with Rev. Kyle Clark conducting services.

Blind Tiger Brusa kas Convicted in Clinton Police Court
George Brusakas was convicted of operating a blind tiger at his home at Sixth and Pine streets in Clinton. He was fined 200 dollars and sentenced to 60 days in county jail with plans to appeal to the circuit court. The case marks Clinton’s first blind tiger prosecution since county option saloons closed.
