Trains Detour Through City After Grade Work
After the Big Four grade was made passable on Monday evening, there has been minimal through passenger service. Clover Leaf trains and the St. Louis Division routes of the Big Four now reach Indianapolis via a detour over the Indiana Harbor line to Danville and then to Indianapolis. The Lake Erie bridge at Lafayette, used by the Chicago division, was deemed unsafe late Tuesday, causing further detours. As a result, the heavy volume of trains through the city has halted reconstruction efforts.
