The New York Journal of Commerce reports the loss of the steam packet Home after leaving New York for Charleston on Oct 7. Of about 130 aboard only around 40 survived, with many passengers lost. Captain Camarox Wutrz writes of the disaster and lists names and fates, noting the vessel insured for 40,000 dollars and no cargo aboard.
