Lords Debate Test and Corporation Acts Repeal
In the Lords the petition from the Presbytery of Annan urged repeal of the Sacramental Test and the Church of Scotland’s rights. Others from Glasgow and across Scotland pressed repeal of the Test and Corporation Acts with calls for toleration, while Eldon warned the petition may exceed powers of Parliament. The debate moved to second reading as Lord Holland outlined broad support and a large Indemnity Bill companion.
