1985 Feed Grain program offers sweeter benefits
The 1985 Feed Grain program, announced to all state ASCS offices Monday, adds sweeteners to attract producers. Benefits include a cash payment equal to half of anticipated deficiency for signups, a shortened non grazing period to five months, and possible earlier grazing of set aside acres. Deficiency payments apply if target prices fall. projections place corn at 47 cents per bushel, with 23.5 cents on signup.

Schuman and Sons harvests 50th seed crop
The Schuman family celebrates 50 years since founder Glenn Schuman began seed corn in 1934. Jim Schuman, Harold Schuman, and Phyllis Schuman lead a family operation grown from 5 acres to 1,350 acres and $3 million in sales in 1983, with seven family members owning most of the company and plans to harvest 1,500 acres this year. The harvest started last Tuesday and runs into long hours as detasseling and field work continue through October.
