USDA Expands Meat Donations for School Lunch Program
The Agriculture Department will boost beef purchases for fall cafeterias as cattle prices remain low. The plan includes 5.1 million pounds of bulk frozen ground beef for 4.98 million dollars and up to 30 million dollars of grain fattened beef for donation, totaling about 500 million dollars in commodities for school lunches.

North Dakota Sees U S Barley Exports Expand
William Drummond of the North Dakota Barley Council says U S barley exports have fluctuated from 100 million to 11 million bushels yearly. He forecasts growth through market development to reach Europe and new regions including Nigeria Ivory Coast Cameroon Latin America and Japan with 19 million bushels in Latin America. Trade missions abroad are planned for 1986 along with seminars to pursue new markets.

EPA tightens rootworm pesticide sales to certified users
By Sept 1 the EPA restricts sales and use of common corn rootworm pesticides to farmers with pesticide certification cards and certified dealers. Products on the restricted list include Counter Dasonit Disyston Dyfonate Furadan Mocap Temik Thimet. A Madison specialist proposes amputation but a Winnebago chief guides Christine to a poultice made from smartweed. The arm heals, the boy serves in WWI, and later becomes a Michigan fruit-farm owner.
