Garbe family grows a herd focused on milk quality and longevity
The Garbes at Knollwood Farm emphasize milk production and cow longevity in selecting breeding lines under $25 per straw. They discuss calf housing options, inside versus outside stalls, and plan a steady expansion to improve herd quality and machinery. The couple, with three young sons, won the Young Cooperator Contest and earned trips to national dairy events. Western Wisconsin also fared well with runners-up Bradley and Susan Johnson and second runners-up Edward and Carol Terry. The program aims to educate and involve young dairy farmers for future leadership.
